About Me

To give you a sense of who I am and how I work, as feeling safe and comfortable is central to this work.

A Passion For People, Learning & Change

Before creating The Self Discovery Project, I spent years supporting people with their mental health, as well as the therapists and services that look after them. I also completed further specialist training in different therapeutic approaches that are both powerful and genuinely still fascinating to work with. My niche in this area developed organically, an area I love working with, learning about, and know I can make a difference with.

Trauma, low-self esteem & stress may appear like separate difficulties but they are often the product of each other, and the self-abandonment that underlies them all. The negative self-beliefs, and subsequent roles & lifestyles people take on often leave them too busy and tired living in this autopilot survival mode. And if they finally reach out for support and it’s not the right type, it can leave them feeling unheard, too much or beyond help. Hence, this project was created – a space for you to connect, learn and heal. So I very much look forward to seeing you through your journey back to you.

What It’s Like Working With Me

I Don’t Just Listen & Sit Back

I’m in the “trenches with you”, active in the session, noticing defences & cheerleading the changes. We also slow down & create space for the uncomfortable stuff.

I Understand & I Love This Area Of Work

I can hold & support what you bring, with no judgement or shock. I have helped so many people through this very journey you’re looking to start. It’s tough, exciting & possible!

This Isn’t Just “Talking” Therapy

It’s a journey of learning & changing for the long term. It can be a mix of therapy approaches, and a mix of formats. So bring your creative skills, I’ll certainly be bringing my metaphors!

Sessions Are Tailored To You

To what you need, how you work & what will help. They are certainly neuro-affirming, queer-affirming & culturally sensitive.

The Focus Is Not Just On Mental Health

This is about all of you, including your physical health, lifestyle and relationships.

This Is Not A Formal Space

Us getting on is central to our work & part of the healing process. I’m an open book, and all of you is welcome.

Experience

Over the past 14 years, I have worked across primary, secondary, community and forensic mental health services in the NHS, as well as in academic and private settings. I have supported people from many different backgrounds through a wide range of mental health challenges, including recovering from assaults, bereavement, accidents, work or faith related trauma, abusive relationships and childhood trauma. Along the way, I have developed a passion and specialism in supporting people with trauma, low self esteem, burnout and ADHD, areas that often overlap and influence one another.

Therapies I am trained and qualified in:

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Trauma-Focused CBT

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

I also incorporate principles from other therapies where helpful, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, body-based approaches and inner child work.

A Space For More

I don’t just offer Therapy. This is an ever-growing space to gain knowledge, change and confidence in a way that works for you. The Workshops can be a brief insight into this work, an opportunity to learn a little, get creative, and connect with yourselves and others in similar positions. Groups are the next step up from this, with the opportunity to stay in the same small group over the course of weeks to focus on one element of the self-discovery journey. The Self Discovery Book Club is a closed group per book to allow us to learn from and connect over a self-help book of choice – and finally read those books we love buying! This is also a hub for therapists who want to work on themselves personally or professionally, with Clinical Supervision available for the latter. Finally, there is a page for Articles where I write about all things trauma, low self-esteem, burnout & ADHD related.
